How to Save $500 in 15 Minutes (and Achieve Your Dreams)

She said some of the worst words you can say to me.

“Let’s get rid of ESPN. ”

My hands shot out in protest, and I probably said some things in my fight or flight moment — I don’t know since I probably blacked out — but when I woke up, I did some mental math.

I thought about how much I actually did watch my premium sports channels. I estimated 3-5 hours on college football Saturdays and pretty much zero the other 8 months other than the occasional college basketball game. It didn’t justify keeping the cable.

We cut the cord.

We only kept basic TV (and weirdly enough, HBO, which was pretty much free with the basic package) and saved ourselves $40 or so a month, almost $500 a year.

But it did something much greater.

We think of cutting expenses as cutting down our lives, when in fact it cuts us free.

I share more of these thoughts on my guest post at

Cutting TV has become a no brainer the longer we live haha. It’s such a money and time saver while giving you the chance to be more productive. Found your blog through billionaire blog club, keep up the great posts!

Thanks and welcome, Vivian! The advice is so simple and powerful, yet feels so scary. What would you do with that extra time?
