How to Retire Early – A Step by Step Guide

Have I shared my story with you?

Maybe you think that because I write for a financial blog, that money has always been easy for me.  Maybe it’s because I’ve worked in finance for over 15 years that you think I was born knowing how to make a budget.

You might think that I can’t relate to you.

But back in 2000, I was fresh out of college, living in a hostel in Spanish Harlem, and down to my last dollars.  I had no time to figure out personal finance because I was just trying to survive.  Early retirement was the farthest thing from my mind.

You probably know this feeling too.  You’re just scraping by, dreaming of the day when life gets easier, when going to work is a choice.  But how do you get there?

I remember the moment when it came to me.  I was sitting on my couch sometime around 2005-6 and dreaming of possibilities, then putting pencil to paper to figure it out.  That became the broad outline of my approach to achieving early retirement.

I’ve shared these thoughts on my guest post on Making Sense of Cents, where I outline my steps to how I did it and how you can as well.

Here’s the best part:  You don’t need to make a lot of money to retire early.
